Favorite iPad Apps

Several people are using iPads or iPhones at home now, so I thought I would share a few of my favorite apps that we are using in the classroom.

Peekaboo Barn -- This is a great first app for teaching cause/effect.  It also helps students figure out how to use the touch screen.  The barn makes a noise, and when you touch it, an animal is revealed.  Also great for learning animal vocabulary!  $1.99

I Hear Ewe -- This is another great app for teaching cause/effect and helping your child get used to using the iPad.  It also helps teach vocabulary and sounds that animals or objects make.  This is a free app.

Endless Alphabet -- We just started using this app this week, and it has been a huge hit!  The app helps with letter matching, teaches letter sounds, and uses some great vocabulary words to do it.  This is a free app.

Letter School -- This is, by far, one of our favorite apps.  Letter School is a great writing app that allows use to teach using various handwriting styles.  We use the Handwriting Without Tears (HWT) method, and this app supports that.  The students have loved practicing writing letters with this app.  Letter School is $2.99, but there is a lite version as well so you can try it before you buy it.

Bugs and Bubbles -- This is another popular app in the classroom.  Bugs and Bubbles has so many educational games like color sorting, counting, building, and patterning.  It's a wonderful app for helping students develop preschool skills and iPad skills.  The app is $2.99 as well, but you get a lot of bang for your buck!

Let me know if you try any of these apps at home!

  1. My daughter Simi loves 'Endless Alphabet' and 'I Hear Ewe'. It helps her in producing sounds but at the same time she is able to experience an educational game.
